Endings

7000 words.

That's all I managed last week, which isn't a bad word count. However, I wanted to finish my book.

But life happened, and then a couple books wanted to be read, and that daunting ending really gave me trouble.

Endings. Harumph. For awhile I was actually afraid of my ending and kind of repelled by my manuscript because it just felt like it was too big for me. I think I am over that for now, and I am pleased that I figured out a big piece of my ending (subject to change of course).

However, winding this book down is difficult. In fact where it is right now could propel my book into a new direction that lasts for tens of thousands of more words, but I won't let it.

My break was good and maybe I'll unplug occasionally, but it's good to be back and active in full blogging mode again.

So here is to finishing my book this week. Hey, not including about five- or six-thousand words I wrote previously, I can then say I wrote my book in 8 weeks.

  2. You got a lot done last week, and you are so close! Eight weeks is a great amount of time to finish a book! You can do it this week.

  3. Way to go! All I managed to get done last week was a 2700 word rewrite of a chapter. I'm happy with what I can get. You'll finish it this week, I'm sure. Good luck!

  4. That's 7000 words more then I wrote. Between puppies and uni, there is no time for writing. Okay, maybe I could stop playing with the puppies...but they're so cute!

I hate endings. I've re-written mine 3 times already and there is going to be at least one more.

    Good luck!

  11. Interesting how you wrote you were afraid of your ending. It can be daunting, wanting to tie up the loose ends and make sure the characters say an appropriate good-bye.

  12. It's interesting that you say one possible ending could send you off on another writing tangent ... might this material be useable in a sequel? Great ideas should never be completely shelved! ;-)

  14. Endings. Bleck. They're my least favorite things to write. This is good for you. It means you'll probably do them brilliantly and love writing them. So good luck. :)

  15. Heidi & Patti, I haven't written it in 8 weeks...yet. Fingers crossed. And Cammie, that's a good perspective about the sequel only I feel like I have to wrap that bit up to give the book closure. But like Jessica said, I can always change it later.

  16. 7,000 words is impressive! Hopefully you will be finished by next week. I've hit a block in my WIP, but maybe I'll get back in the swing of things soon.

  17. Well done friend...and it seems you could possibly have a sequel on your hands with that ending? Something to think about perhaps? P.S. The hubs had knee surgery, not back...if it was his back I think they'd have to commit me to a mental institution. Thanks for your support though, and I'm praying your husband doesn't have anything seriously wrong with his back! :)
